Introduction
Welcome to the new website of the Arab Middle East Office in Ramallah. With the new design and setup, we hope to enhance our service to provide you with interesting and necessary information around our work in the occupied Palestinian territory, Jordan and Egypt.
The Heinrich Böll Foundation is part of the Green political movement that has developed worldwide as a response to the traditional politics of socialism, liberalism, and conservatism. Our main tenets are: democracy, ecology and international politics.
The AMEO is responsible for projects and programs in Palestine, Egypt, and Jordan. Other offices in the region include the Israel office in Tel Aviv, and the Middle East Office in Beirut, which opened in November 2004. Locally, the Foundation works on the implementation of these principles, focusing on three main program areas:
- Democracy and Reform
- Sustainable Development & Climate Change
- Dialogue and Crises
According to the estimates of the International Panel on Climate Change, the IPCC, the Mashreq region and North Africa will be the region most severely affected by climate change in the coming decades. Against this background, the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), Heinrich Böll Foundation Arab Middle East Office Ramallah and The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) as the local organizer will jointly host an international conference on "The Impact of Climate Change on the Middle East – Challenges and Opportunities for Development and Security". The conference will take place in Amman, Jordan, November 25-28, 2010. Please find more information on the following page. more»
