Letters against violence against women is a brochure that presents some successful practices from the viewpoint of partner organizations in Salma Group with the purpose of displaying them to the broad public opinion, especially women rights activists in Arab countries, who constitute the main targeted public.
When we were choosing the practices and activities, we were trying to select the practices we believed could be repeated in other areas. Thus, we were keen to submit this kind of detailed background information on every course; readers learn about the reasons that pushed different organizations to choose any of such methods.
It is important to explain that in this brochure we do not intend to prescribe a ready-made recipe or instructions on how to succeed in the area of women’s rights. Our objective is to highlight some of our success stories, hoping that they will inspire other activists in designing their plans and projects. We hope this brochure will be a starting point to intensify action and networking and to exchange experiences among women’s rights activists in other Arab countries and in the rest of the world.
Readers who are not activists in the area of women’s rights – we hope – will be able to refer to this publication to explicate the difficulties we face in field work in defending women’s rights. Experiences explicated in the brochure explain the difficulty to change towards the best, but they also explain that such a change is not impossible. We thus reiterate Salma Group’s motto that it has been holding since 2003: Life is possible without violence or discrimination!
