Long Term Partners:

  • Birzeit University Media Development Center (MDC)
    Since the 1990s the hbf AMEO is cooperating with the Palestinian Birzeit University Media Development Center (MDC) and its radio training center. The Media Institute has developed an exceptional reputation for its capacity to enhance its academic programs with practical applications, the result of which are the Journalist students' newspaper and the Birzeit radio station which broadcasts programs developed and administered by students of the program. The University station is the only one of its kind in the region which broadcasts to the local community serving educational and professional training purposes simultaneously. One of the aims of the Media Institute is to encourage the development of independent audio/visual media and improve technical skills in audio/visual production and computer technologies of local residents and members of civic organizations. As such the Institute facilities are made accessible to grassroots organizations and individuals from the community and the Institute offers various workshops, seminars and professional diplomas for individuals working in the field. Since this year, MDC concentrated on strengthening the legal framework for journalists and initiated a series of workshops to draft a new press and syndicate law.

  • Muwatin – The Palestinian Institute for the Study of Democracy
    Since the 1990s the Foundation is cooperating with Muwatin. The civic education and public awareness work of Muwatin seeks to foster democratic consciousness and action, thereby promoting the democratization process in Palestine and the countries of the Arab Middle East. It also seeks to strengthen the development, promotion and networking activities of civil society on a local and regional level. Main instruments of  Muwatin’s efforts to initiate democratic dialogue and public debate on issues of democracy and reform are studies and books, conferences and symposia, round tables and seminars.

  • Sisterhood is Global/ Jordan (SIGI/J)
    SIGI/J is one of the five partners in the hbf Ramallah coordinated and EU-funded Salma – project, which aims combating violence against women.  Established in 1998 and based in Amman, SIGI/J seeks to promote Women's Rights as Human Rights, eliminate discrimination and violence against women, provide protection and support for women, and develop women's capacities, especially in knowing and defending their rights. SIGI/Js Aman' s website offers a variety of information about violence against women and provide opportunities for exchanging information, experiences and networking between relevant parties. 

  • The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) was founded in 1993 by a group of concerned Jordanian ecological divers. The project activities included the initiation of a continuous coral reef monitoring program, in close association with the top Marine Ecology scientists in the country, followed by an intensive public information and awareness campaign that was the first of its kind in Aqaba. JREDS has greatly expanded its programs over the years and its activities currently ranges from community development and income generating programs, to public awareness and clean-up campaigns, to rehabilitation of water networks in poor urban areas and Environmental Impact Assessments. Since inception, JREDS has grown in size and influence, currently managing 30 projects under 9 program areas, with local, regional and global partners. JREDS has also gained influence at the regional level, working with other national environmental groups under a regional initiative to regional protect the Red Sea. Under The Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden (PERSGA), JREDS has coordinated public awareness programs in the Red Sea region.

Egypt

Long Term Partners:

  • Association for Health and Environmental Development (AHED), Cairo, Egypt
    The Association for Health and Environmental Development is an Egyptian Non-Governmental Organization established and registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs in November 1987, and mandated in 1998 to work anywhere in Egypt. In all its activities, AHED adopts the principles of equity, human rights, comprehensive integrated development and active community participation. Their core principles are based on the right to well-being, and the right to access and control resources.

Strategic Goals and General Objectives

  • Assist in identifying appropriate strategies and policies which particularly respond to the needs and rights of the most disadvantaged and marginalized groups in the areas of health, disability and environment.
  •  Raise awareness, initiate and promote dialogue, debate and analysis, and advocate issues related to the above through campaigning, dissemination of information and publications, convening meetings, training, etc.
  •  Develop and/or assist in the development of grassroots comprehensive interventions/models through which these strategies can be tested and evaluated, and lessons learned disseminated
  •  Help strengthening cooperation and coordination among the different stakeholders concerned with the above areas, particularly amongst civil society groups

  • Appropriate Communication Techniques for Development Center (Act) was founded in 1992 as an Egyptian Non-Governmental Organization working in development. The idea to establish the center was in compliance with the training and consultation needs of the NGOs and other institutions of civil society. ACT center has a distinguished team of experts, artists, administrators and development specialists. This center also contains many units such as:
    - Training and human resources unit.
    - Gender unit.
    - Civic Education unit.
    - Documentation & audio-visual assistance unit.
    - Counseling unit.
    - Media Watch unit.

    ACT center mission is defined in raising communication skills in the development field and its attempt to networking with & between different development groups in Egypt and the Arab World, disseminate the culture of civic education, human rights, and promoting values of democracy and citizenship. Also to secure a data base for educational & training references; this is achieved through many of its main and important ways of work such as:
  • Reinforcing the role of NGOs and create strong and settled mechanisms to cooperate together.
  • Reinforcing women’s role in society, participating in strengthening their role and assisting them in performing their different roles, while they actively participate in society and obtain their various rights.
  • Developing organizational abilities for the existing organizations and the new initiatives in civil society.
  • Sanctioning transparency principle in dealing with different parties.
  • Offering advisory and consultancy services for the different development organizations in Egypt and the Arab world.

  • El Nadeem Centre for Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence
    El Nadeem is another partner in the Salma Project. Since its foundation in 1993 El Nadeem has been providing psychological rehabilitation and counseling, social support, and reference to legal aid to support victims of all forms of violence in addition to carrying out a range of campaigning activities on the issue. Being the only provider of support for victims of sexual and domestic violence in Egypt, El Nadeem Centre seeks to expand the counseling facilities for women victims of violence and also offers training seminars for women to confront gender-based violence.
