BirZeit University Media Development Center announced on Wednesday 25 July 2007 having completed the preparation of a final draft of the Journalists Union’s Law and amendments to the Palestinian Prints and Publications Law of 1995, in a conference held at the Best Eastern Hotel. The conference was attended by a number of journalists from different West Bank Governorates.
The announcement of the completion of preparation of the draft and changes crowned a series of workshops and meetings funded by Heinrich Boell Foundation, attended by tens of journalists from the West Bank and Gaza, who for many months worked on making the amendments to the two laws after discussion of the problems facing journalists in reason of the lacunae in the Prints and Publication Law and the absence of a law to regulate the Journalists’ Union.
The BirZeit Media Developmenet Center is expected to publish the two laws with its two partners “MIFTAH” and “AMAN” to allow the largest number of journalists review the laws prior to presentation thereof to the PLC.
