  • Project: “Löwenzahn” in Arabic
    Project Partner:
    Al Quds TV – Educational Program
    Date & Place: December 2005 – February 2006, Ramallah/West Bank
    Al Quds – Educational TV obtained dubbing and transmission rights for the children’s series “Dandelion” from ZDF until May 2007 through the Goethe Institute. The project will provide financial support for dubbing 10 episodes of the program which was one of the first TV programs to deal with matters of environmental concern. After finalizing the dubbing into Arabic, Al Quds – Educational TV (AETV) will broadcast “Dandelion” at least 10 times over the course of the next 12 months during the afternoon. The complete series will be made available to other Palestinian TV stations such as PBC, the Maan Network and local broadcasters. This project will provide a chance for Palestinian media experts to be trained on dubbing programs from other languages.

  • Project: Environmental Awareness through Radio Spots

    Date & Place: April – November 2006, Ramallah/West Bank
    Following two projects of publishing an environmental supplement and training journalists on environmental journalism, MAAN accumulated good material on the main environmental problems in Palestine. This project aims at making this information available to the general public and activists through broadcasting well-prepared radio spots. The spots will provide accurate and direct information that will encourage activists to take action and they will increase public awareness of critical environmental issues in Palestine. A total of 32 spots will be prepared and broadcasted through the PBC.

  • Project: Printing water study in Arabic

    Date & Place: June-August 2006, Ramallah/West Bank
    The study on water as a human right which was initially conducted in English and printed as part of the globalization papers in Berlin, was reprinted in a book format and distributed to different partners, universities and think tanks in the Arab Middle East region. The book was not very useful especially for our youth organizations partners who needed the material in Arabic. The book was translated and printed in Arabic. It will be one of the few available materials in Arabic in this important topic.

  • Project: Participation in a regional conference on renewable energy
    Project Partner:

    Date & Place: June 2006, Ramallah/West Bank
    A group of five environmental activists from Jordan, West Bank and Gaza participated in the third Middle East meeting on renewable energy MENREC 3. A civil society forum was organized parallel to this conference. Civil society forum was founded and people will continue to bee active in the coming years to promote renewable energy in the region.

  • Project: Lawyers Training on Environmental Cases

    Habi Center for Environmental Rights
    Date & Place: October 2006 - March 2007, Cairo / Egypt 
    This projects aims at training of 100 lawyers in five governorates in Egypt on environmental laws, regulations and regional and international agreements. The training will also include an element of monitoring environmental rights violations and networking with civil society organizations. 20 of the best and most interested lawyers will be selected for a more advanced training including practical training on real cases, participating in court hearings and building up a court file.

  • Project: Building a knowledge Center for Right to Water
    Project partner:
    The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS)
    Date& Place: Jordan, April 2006 – March 2007
    Through the existing established base in Aqaba and its constituents, JREDS will establish special knowledge centre on fresh water. The centre will adapt the right to water approach and will be based on active and creative learning process. In order to establish a centre that responds to youth needs perceptions JREDS will go through a participatory process involving youth in high schools and universities from different regions of Jordan. The youth leaders will be encouraged to establish clubs in their schools and universities. The first task of the club will bee identifying local water problems, information needed for the local communities and suggesting different forms, displays and presentation to explain the concept of right to water for average Jordanians especially youth.
    This central training will provide selective number of youth leaders with concepts of right to water, leadership skills, presentation skills, team work campaigning and advocacy for the right to water.
    The different ideas will be presented in an open exhibition where different youth initiatives
    Based on the collective efforts, a main knowledge centre will be established in Aqaba. It will be a resource centre for the right to water with permanent exhibition of presentations of books, films and any other products promoting the right to water. In addition to an online access to resource on the internet and a special website on resources on the right to water in Arabic or English. The centre will be open for public as a family attraction with the support of JREDS permanent office in Aqaba.

  • Project: Water Rights and Environmental Awareness

    Tamer Institute for Community Education
    Date& Place: May 2006- April 2007
    The project intends to support the right to water by initiating an active and creative learning process among youths and young leadership. The project consists of four main phases:
    Phase 1 will consist of a series of workshops for 140 young people from Tamer Nakheel teams aged between 16 and 23. The participants will be introduced to the concept of right to water and develop leadership and presentation skills and the ability to work in a team and to advocate the human right to water. There will be four West Bank workshops covering the northern West Bank, the south and the middle. There will also be three workshops in the Gaza Strip, bringing together young people in Northern, Central and Southern Gaza.
    Phase 2: The youths will be encouraged to launch initiatives increasing awareness of water as a human right and advocating their right to water. During this process they will be encouraged to collect information and educational material needed to identify local water problems and establish ‘mini knowledge centers’ to produce awareness materials and presentations available for other youths and interested people within their local communities.
    Phase 3 will comprise of one day open forums; one in the West Bank and one in Gaza. In these open forums participants will share the outcomes and progress of local community initiatives they undertook and will review the project as a whole.
    Phase 4: All through the project Tamer youth will be encouraged to exchange knowledge, educational materials and presentations with other youth in the Arab region who work on the right to water (especially JREDS in Jordan). A group of 10 distinguished and most active youths will participate in exchange visit to attend the launch of JREDS knowledge center funded by hbf in Aqaba- Jordan.

  • Project: Environmental Geologic Sciences Supporting the Jordanian Economy
    Project Partner:
    The Hashemite University
    Date & Place: 10 October - 10 December 2006, Zarqa- Jordan
    A group of interested and professionals in ore reserves, oil shale, and related industries in addition to environmentalists and geologists will meet in the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment / The Hashemite University to discuss their environmental responsibilities, sustainability of resources and renewable resources. The workshop will draw the link between environment and economic development in Jordan and focus on the needs for a sustainable development. Parallel to the conference, and part of the Hashemite university contribution to the project, an exhibition will be held coinciding and accompanying the workshop objectives for three consecutive days.

  • "I don’t want to be thirsty": A regional training workshop was held in Amman for youth leaders on the "Right to Water". In coordination with a German consultant and water expert Simone Klawitter, participants developed awareness and campaigning materials such as videp clips, plays and songs.  In the follow-up, the trainees carried the message of the training back to their universities, communities and local groups.

  • ‘Kaykab Garden’: An Environmental Awareness Project was established at the Friend’s Boys School in Ramallah. The project uses innovative opportunities and creative resources to increase environmental awareness among schoolchildren in the West Bank. The Kaykab Garden, arranged around the themes of Palestinian Heritage and Sustainability, is used as a venue for environmental education.
