Democratic Participation Activities

Project: Promoting Access to Information
Project Partner: AMAN – The Coalition for Accountability and Integrity
Date & Place: May – June 2006, Ramallah/West Bank
With this project AMAN aims to promote access to information amongst Palestinians and to make fundamental legislation known to human rights activists and anti-corruption activists in addition to the general public. AMAN will re-print four booklets containing: Civil Servants Law; Parliamentarians Tool Kit; Basic Law; “Cost of Illicit Enrichment Law”, “Access to Information Law” and “Overseeing the Administrative and Financial Law”. AMAN will use these booklets in their different public meetings, trainings and awareness building activities.
Project: Supporting the Civic Education Curriculum in Palestinian Schools
Project Partner: Teacher Creativity Center
Date & Place: September- December 2006, Ramallah- Palestine
Due to the recent political developments in the Palestinian society, some of the previous achievements toward teaching democracy, diversity, participation and inclusion are threatened. One of these achievements was the development of a civic education curriculum for school children aged 6 to 16. The project aims at engaging Palestinian civil society in a debate about the importance of this topic and ways to develop modern creative practices of teaching democracy. Projects activities include a national conference for academics, experts and educationalists from all over the West Bank to develop a strategic document for the support of civic education in Palestine. The document will be later used as a campaigning tool to safeguard teaching civic education in the Palestinian schools. Other activities include workshops to present successful practices in civic education and encourage civil society activists to protect the idea of civic education in schools.
