- Project: Visiting Program "US and European Foreign Policy towards the Middle East"
Project Partner: hbf offices Beirut, Ramallah, Washington, and Brussels, hbf Berlin Date & Place: 23-27 May 2005 USA & 17-22 November 2005 Europe A delegation of political analysts, representatives of think tanks, and academics from the Middle East will explore in depth the issue of "US and European foreign policies towards the Middle East" through a visiting program to think tanks and institutions in Washington (May) as well as Brussels/Berlin (November). The objective is to enhance knowledge about factors of influence, interests, functions and decision-making processes in dynamics of US American and European foreign policies as well as the transatlantic relationship towards the Middle East. The information and discussions will serve to gain more insight into complex processes and to enable the group to contribute to political strategies that deal with foreign policies and political initiatives towards their region. Furthermore, the activity will encourage the participants to form a working group in order to explore some crucial reform issues in more depth and to consequently develop a document on "smart policies".
- Project: 10 Years Euro-Mediterranean Partnership
Date & Place: April 2005 In the occasion of the EMPs 10th anniversary, this activity consists of a critical assessment of the EMP together with hbf's civil society partners, which are or have been engaged in the EMP. Hbf has developed a questionnaire, which aims to explore views of hbf's partners on instruments and impact of EMP civil society cooperation. The outcomes of the questionnaire and the workshops will feed into the hbf's annual foreign policy symposium in June 2005, where a special panel on the EMP will be held.
